Organization's brief:

Hotels International Limited, a Public Limited Company (PLC), 100% of its share is owned by the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh is the owning company of the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, Dhaka.

After liberation of Bangladesh the number of foreign visitors increased manifold in the country and it was felt necessary to establish a modern "5-Star" standard hotel in Dhaka to cater to the growing needs of the visitors. With this end in view, a PUBLIC LIMITED COMPANY under the name of "HOTELS INTERNATIONAL LIMITED" was formed and registered on 25t" June 1977 with the registrar of Joint stock Companies under the Companies Act 1913. A Board of Director governs the Company, the Government nominates the members of the Board and the company was entrusted with responsibility of constructing, owning, maintenance and managing the proposed hotel, which is now known as "SONARGAON HOTEL". The hotel was built under a loan sanctioned from Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund (OECF), now Japan Bank of International Cooperation (JBIC) of Japan Government and the Government of Bangladesh. The loan amount including all its interests has already been paid off by HIL.

The foundation stone of this Hotel was laid by the then President, Maj. General Ziaur Rahman BU, psc (Retd) on 17-10-1977. Accordingly, the Company is fulfilling all its obligations but since there is a lack of technical expertise for operating such a big and high standard hotel, an international chain of hotels, previously known as " TOKYU HOTELS INTERNATIONAL" operating under the business name of "PAN PACIFIC HOTELS & RESORTS" (PPHR) has been engaged to operate and mange Sonargaon Hotel as the Managing Agent of Hotels International Limited. Recently another hotel chain of Singapore UOL Group has taken over all the shares of PPHR.

Under an agreement signed in 1981 between Hotels International Limited (HIL) and Pan Pacific Hotels & Resorts (PPHR), they have been running operation and management of Sonargaon Hotel. The agreement renewed after 5 years ever since then. The Hotel was commissioned in August 1981. Sonargaon Hotel was built on about 8 acres of land in the heart of the city's most prestigious place, Karwan Bazar. Since inception the business of the hotel increased day-by-day and earning considerable amount of Foreign Exchange for the country. By this time the hotel has earned a reputation for its services, facilities and cleanliness.

Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel is the most prestigious and the leading five star hotels of the country. Over the last 26 years it has gone through several changes and challenges to keep pace with the need of its valued guests. The Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel is not only a five star hotel, but also a landmark in the tourism sector reflecting the beautiful images of Bangladesh and its caring and hospitable people to the outside world.

Accommodation:

Eight storied main and four storied courtyard building comprising of 304 air-conditioned rooms and suites with IDD facility, music, voice mail, satellite TV with multi-language channels, honor bar, electronic safe, in-room internet & e-mail service and 24-hour room service.

Health Club:

Fully equipped Gymnasium, Sauna, Massage, SPA, Swimming pool, Wading pool for children, Tennis Court, Squash Court and Steam bath etc.

Business Center:

Open 24 hours, Secretarial services, telephone, fax, telex, e-mail and internet available.

Restaurants:

There are 3 (three) restaurants in the hotel, 24 Hours Coffee Shop (Cafe Bazar),
Seafood restaurant (Jharna) and Italian Food restaurant (CIAO) for a complete range of delicious foods of national and international cuisines.

Ballroom/Meeting rooms:

There is a ballroom cum conference hall, which can accommodate about 1500 persons at a time and dine about 800 persons in a sitting can be divided into 3 (three) equal parts. There are also some smaller meeting rooms with all modern equipment and facilities for meetings and small parties.

Laundry services, the beauty & barber salon, shopping Complex, commercial places like travel agencies, banks etc. are also within the hotel complex.

To meet the need of the time and to face the challenge of the new millennium, two separate programmes for Renovation and Expansion of the Hotel have been undertaken by HIL and are now under implementation.
